Since her earliest memories, Dr. Teryl Mayer has wanted to be a veterinarian. Her mother recalls Teryl as a little girl proudly telling the world that she wanted to be a “doggie doctor.” Life intervened in those dreams for awhile and, as she says, she took the “scenic route” to veterinary studies, but finally entered the University of Iowa in 1992 to pursue a pre-veterinary course of study. Dr. Mayer attended Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, a highly-rated veterinary school, and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Immediately following graduation, she joined a practice outside of Detroit, Michigan. She later accepted a position with a large veterinary hospital in a Chicago suburb that employed 15 doctors and featured state-of-the-art care as well as a 24-hour emergency room. She received intensive experience in virtually all aspects of veterinary medicine in that position. It was in Chicago that she met her husband, an attorney who is also an Iowa native and animal lover.

Dr. Mayer has been practicing at South Pointe Animal Hospital since October of 2006 and has clients all over the CSRA. She even has clients that come from as far as Alabama to see her!

Dr. Mayer and her husband live in Hephzibah with their three Shih Tzus. They are both avid motorcyclists and yes, Dr. Mayer rides her own Harley-Davidson.

Growing up, Melissa always had a love for animals and knew working with them was what she wanted to do with her life. Along with her family, she became active in rescuing racing greyhounds during her teenage years. This acted to further solidify her desire to work with animals. Melissa graduated from Ashworth College with a certificate in Veterinary Assisting. She has now been with South Pointe for three years. Melissa lives in Hephzibah with her husband, five dogs and two pet rats.

Rachel graduated with her Associates Degree in Applied Science from the Vet Tech Institute at Bradford School in Columbus, Ohio in 2015. She joined the staff at South Pointe in 2015, while still attending the school. Rachel has a passion for exotic animals and enjoys fostering and helping out kittens in need. Rachel lives in Grovetown with her husband, and a virtual menagerie of animals including cats, dogs, a fish and a snake.
